Ahoy, Matey! The 4th Graders enjoyed their Accelerated Reader Pirate Adventure on Friday, April 29th. They learned their pirate names, told some haaarrrr-ible pirate jokes, and completed their pirate training. We even celebrated the top reader in each 4th grade classroom. A BIG thank you to all the volunteers who made this day such a success.
After learning about the layers of a rainforest, 2B created one together in small groups. They even drew animals that belonged in each layer.

1E students had the opportunity to feel Braille writing and pictures in books, check out the new AAC Board that will be coming to our playground in the future, and learn some sign language from a soon to be local sign language interpreter. We are thankful to the committee for providing these amazing lessons and opportunities to help us learn more about diverse ways to communicate!
Do you want to get away to the city? Join us in Volume City! Fifth grade math students applied their volume skills to create city creations and then reported on the volume of their buildings, perimeter of their green spaces, and the area of their roadways.
7th grade SS students discussed wartime emotions and strategies soldiers and civilians used to combat anxiety and boredom during the Civil War era... can any of these strategies be used by us today? Then they immersed themselves in distraction and entertainment activities "Civil War style" ... no electronics! A little checkers, jacks, marbles anyone?
6th-8th Grade Band Members enjoyed an amazing performance by the Peoria Symphony Orchestra this week!

7th grade math students worked together calculating mileage on an actual map. The re-fold of the maps turned out to be quite comical.
Today, in celebration of Diversity Awareness, students in 5B learned about Braille, translated words into Braille, and went on a walk reading Braille signs around the school.
Diversity awareness day #2. 3C students learned about Braille and found places around the school that had Braille signs. They even got to type on a Braille machine.
Some first grade classes spent time on B day of our ABC Countdown buddy reading with each other on this beautiful day! We are looking forward to giving out compliments to each other tomorrow!

3C kicked off diversity week today! Students learned about ASL (American Sign Language). They learned how to sign their names and practiced signing with a friend.
