All April long, National Jazz Appreciation Month celebrates the heritage and history of jazz. As a truly American art form, jazz's soulful and rich culture dates back to the 1890s. The roots of jazz can be found in the blues.

5B and 5D engineers took a shot at engineering a Mars lander that would keep astronauts safe as they landed on the "Red Planet". We quickly learned that building such a contraption takes a LOT of engineering. Check out some of the ideas the kids had.

Why should the adults have all the fun? 5th graders had our own Mini Glo Bingo tonight!

Who/What: A brand new scouting troop is starting in Germantown Hills! This troop is open to girls 5th grade and up and will be linked with the existing Germantown Hills boys scouting troop.
Where/When: Meetings are held Monday evenings at Willow Hill church, and there is usually one campout a month.Scouting is very accommodating of other activities. Come to what you can, when you can, and advance at your own pace. Scouts in our existing troop participate in many other activities, including robotics, cross country, marching band, basketball, soccer, chess team, scholastic bowl, hockey, theater, baseball, rock climbing, track and chorus.
Why: Scouting builds competence and confidence in kids. Adult leadership is present at all events, but activities are largely run and directed by the scouts themselves. Scouts work together as a group, having fun and solving problems that arise. They learn critical skills such as first aid and cooking, and can earn merit badges in 100+ subjects.
Contact Dan Wear (309-397-3009) or Lori Hanson (724-816-1443) for more information!

The track meet for today is cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, specifically falling temperatures and wind chill factor.

Who is your "ONE";the ONE person you cannot do your job without? The Metamora Elementary Teachers' Association asked its members to share the name of one such person. We all know it takes way more than one person to help us do our jobs, but here are a few that were highlighted.

Metamora and Germantown Hills Girls and Boys Basketball teams came together to help raise money for the Greater Peoria Honor Flight. Money raised came from shirt sales, admission and concessions at the basketball games, silent auction items, 50/50 raffle and donations. Bob Reed with the Greater Peoria Honor Flight accepted the check for $5,086.56. Bob shared with us that 11 years ago the cost of the flight was $50,000. Today it now costs $110,000! A BIG THANK YOU to all those that helped in one way or another to raise this money. It is greatly appreciated!
