Ian Peterson, a 6th grader, answered some questions about his experience with the ASCE Bridge Design Contest that was held at the Riverfront Museum.
Describe the Bridge Design Contest.
The bridge design contest was a really neat experience. I liked that I got to work with my friends to come up with the most efficient structure.
What did it feel like to compete?
It was really neat to see all the designs from the other teams. It gave us ideas of what we could do differently in the future.
What is the thing you'll remember most about it?
The thing I will remember the most is having fun with my friends while working on a cool project.
Who was the biggest help to you?
Mrs. Borlin for giving us this opportunity. Our parents for all their support, especially Mr. and Mrs. Wragge for letting us use their house to build our bridge and giving us pizza! Also Mrs. Cole for donating supplies and personally delivering our bridge to the Riverfront.
What else would you like students to know about this and why should they participate in the future?
Others should participate in this project in the future because it is a fun, hands on activity. There is no pressure and the best part is you get to be creative!
